MNSBIR, Inc. Secures $200,000 SBA Funding to Help Startups and Small Businesses Thrive in the Federal Research and Development Landscape

MINNEAPOLIS, MINN. – MNSBIR, Inc., a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping startups and small businesses secure funding to research, develop, and commercialize innovative solutions with economic and social impacts, is proud to announce that it has been awarded a $200,000 grant from the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA). This grant will enable MNSBIR to further support Minnesota’s entrepreneurs in driving innovation and fostering economic growth.

The $200,000 in funding will allow MNSBIR, Inc. to expand its efforts in assisting small businesses—particularly those led by women, minorities, veterans, and entrepreneurs from underserved communities—in securing federal Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) funding.

Pat Dillon, President, MNSBIR, Inc.

“We are grateful for this ongoing support from the SBA,” said Pat Dillon, President of MNSBIR, Inc. “Our organization has a proven track record of helping Minnesota’s startups and small businesses secure this highly competitive funding. Each year, more than $4.5 billion is available from the federal government for businesses to research and commercialize novel solutions. There’s still much more work to be done.”

MNSBIR, Inc. provides free and confidential coaching to Minnesota startups and small businesses with fewer than 500 employees, guiding them through the complexities of federal research and development landscape, with a growing emphasis on technology commercialization.

“This work is critical for Minnesota’s economic growth and development,” said Dillon. “When small businesses secure federal funding to innovate and develop their products and services, they bring jobs and new opportunities to the state.”

The SBA grant will enable MNSBIR, Inc. to continue offering technical assistance, mentorship, and education to startups and small businesses across Minnesota.

“The SBA’s investment is not only a recognition of MNSBIR’s mission but also a crucial step toward increasing diversity and inclusivity in the entrepreneurial ecosystem,” Dillon continued. “MNSBIR, Inc. is committed to ensuring that all entrepreneurs—including women, minorities, veterans, and those from underserved communities—have access to the resources they need to turn their innovative ideas into revenue-generating products and services in Minnesota.”

“We are dedicated to advancing scientific excellence and technological innovation to bolster Minnesota’s economy while fostering diversity and inclusivity,” Dillon added.
