SBIR/STTR 201: Department of Education – Direct to Phase II

This session is focused on the U.S. Department of Education’s Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) program FY2024 Direct-to-Phase II Solicitation, which will be a request for proposals for $1,000,000 for 2-years for R&D and evaluation of new education technology products to ready existing researcher-developed evidence-based innovations (products, interventions, practices) for use at scale, and to plan for commercialization.

The existing education innovation is required to have originally been created by researchers at either universities (or other academic institutions) or non-profit education research organizations. Note that projects that focus on advancing innovations that are not evidence-based will not be eligible for the Direct to Phase II program.

The U.S. Department of Education’s Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) program, administered by the Institute of Education Sciences (IES), focuses on funding research and development efforts in the field of Education Technology (EdTech). The primary goal is to support the creation and implementation of innovative technologies that enhance the learning experience for students, spanning from early education through secondary education and beyond.
